High-performance cellulosic filament fibers prepared via dry-jet wet spinning from ionic liquids

Abstract We report on a new process for the spinning of high-performance cellulosic fibers. For first time, cellulose has been dissolved in ionic liquid (IL) 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium octanoate ([C2C1im][Oc]) via thin film evaporator continuous process. Compared to other ILs, [C2C1im][Oc] shows no signs hydrolysis with water. dope preparation degree polymerization pulp was adjusted by electron beam irradiation and determined viscosimetry. In addition, quality evaluated means alkali resistance. Endless filament fibers have spun using dry-jet wet an extruder instead pump, which significantly increases productivity. By this approach, more than 1000 m multifilament spun. The novel approach allows preparing high Young's modulus (33 GPa) unprecedented tensile strengths up 45 cN/tex. performance obtained provides promising outlook their application as replacement material rayon-based tire cord
